Getting the Ideal Name for Your Baby:
8 Tips for Getting it Right

Choosing a name for your new baby is exciting, but it's not easy because the name you give a child remains with them for life; this makes it a very important decision. This article provides you with 8 tips to make it easier to find the perfect name for your, very special, baby.

Each and every one of us is a unique and special individual and your baby is no exception. You want to find the best name possible for your baby, something that will express his or her special uniqueness, while at the same time pleasing to others. Whether you make up a new, and distinct name for your baby, or name them in honor of a family member, the following tips are designed to help with the process.

Choosing the Right Name for Your Baby Starts Here.

Tip #1.

Uniqueness. Your child is unique, and you may want to give them a name that expresses that uniqueness, whether it is a name of your own making, or something equally good, you want your child to know they are special.

If you do choose an unusual or specially created name, try to make sure that it is easy to spell, and easy to pronounce. Children can become upset if people keep getting their name wrong. You can keep it fairly simple and still be unique.

Try the name you have chosen with your family name. If you have an easy family name such as Smith or Patel, then you can have a longer or more individual first name. If the surname is not a common one, then keep the first name simple, just because something is easy doesn’t mean it can't express uniqueness.

Tip #2.

The rhythm of a name. The sound of your baby's name is important. If you plan to give your baby a middle name as well, then try to keep it balanced, e.g., Lucinda Jane Gray or something simpler like Alysha Madoud. Each of these names flows easily off the tongue, sometimes the sound or rhythm of a name can be as important as the name itself.

Tip #3.

Try balancing a short last name with a longer first-name, and vice versa. Your child's name should be easy to remember and not too difficult to write down.

Tip #4.

Try to avoid first names that end with the same letter as the one at the beginning of the second name, for example Pat Thompson, as the name tends to run together. Names sound better when the first name is distinct from the second, e.g., Helena Carter, Surinda Kaur.

Tip #5.

Alliteration. Alliteration is when two words begin with the same letter, e.g., Lucinda Lawson. Alysha Ahmed, Poonan Patel. Alliteration adds a fine "decoration" to the baby's name. When used properly, you have a combination of letters that make the name easier to say and to remember.

Tip #6.

Check the initials. Once you have selected some names for consideration, try to make sure that the initials don't make a word that can be used to tease, e.g. Rosie Anna Thompson, ends up as rat and children soon pick up on these things.

Always check initials before you name a child so that they don't end up with something that could be used to make them miserable.

Tip #7.

Nickname. Make sure you like the shortened form of your baby's name. As it could become their nickname. If you don't want this to happen then try choosing a name that is difficult to shorten such as Abdul, Dawn or Ann.

Tip #8.

Meaning of the name. When you name a baby, it is a good idea to discover the meaning of the name first. It is always gratifying to know that a name such as Stella means star, or Susan meaning princess. The ancients were always particular about the meaning of a name, because they believed that it influenced the child's future.

These tips should be all that you need to find the perfect name for your unique and special baby. Give it a try, you may be surprised at the results.
